Family Support and Education for PTSD

This is a 6-week psycho-educational group specifically designed for family members and loved ones of clients who are currently engaging in individual trauma treatment.


Week 1: What is PTSD?

● How we define trauma in this context

● Brain changes in trauma

● How therapy rewires the brain

● What is CPT or CBCT


Week 2: Understanding common PTSD symptoms

● Sleep

● Rumination

● Anger/Irritability


Week 3: What can I expect from my loved one in treatment?

● Often things get better before they get worse


Week 4: How relationships organize around PTSD

● Understanding the difference between support and accommodation.

● PTSD can become a focal point of the relationship and inadvertently support the client’s avoidance.


Week 5: How can I be helpful?


Week 6: How are you caring for yourself?
